Leicester City started the 2021/22 season in the Premier League with two wins and one loss in the games played so far. The Foxes lost against West Ham United in the second round, but quickly recovered and won against Norwich City just before the international break. It wasn’t the easiest of all matches at the Carrow Road as Leicester won with a winning goal just 14 minutes of the regular time. It was Marc Albrighton who became the hero after an assist from Jamie Vardy. Vardy himself scored Leicester’s first goal in the game.

Leicester’s manager Brendan Rodgers has some trouble before this fixture with the reigning champions. Johnny Evans and Jannik Vestergaard are missing the game with injuries while Ayoze Perez is still suspended. At the same time players like Bertrand, Fofana, Mendy and Justin are recovering from different injuries as well. Some of them could feature against the Cityzens, though.

Jamie Vardy is the man to watch in Leicester’s squad before facing Man City. The English international has scored 8 goals in his last 10 Premier League matches against the champions – a really outstanding achievement. Vardy has two hat-tricks against Man City as well, so for him it’s really a great feeling when he face this team. That’s why City’s manager Pep Guardiola must be really careful with the striker when these two teams meet.

It’s a curious statistics that just one of the last 11 matches between Leicester City and Manchester City ended with a draw. Leicester won four of these games so don’t try to underrestimate them – they remain a dangerous opponent for the Cityzens.

The Belgian central midfielder Yoeri Tielemans remains one of the key players in Leicester’s squad. The 24-years old is playing very good for the Foxes, so now it’s rumoured that giant clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid are keeping tabs on him. One of Man City’s most important tasks on Saturday should be neutralising Tielemans and isolating him from the game. It won’t be easy, but the champions should keep an eye on him. His creativity could be really harmful for them. Tielemans knows how to find his teammates between the lines and he could be dangerous when joining the attack.

Given the fact how good Manchester City’s attack is, Leicester must be near-perfect in defense against the champions. Caglar Soyuncu and Daniel Amartey should start as the centre-back duo and their performance will be vital for the Foxes.

Manchester City kicked off their campaign with a disappointing loss against Tottenham Hotspur, but in the next two games Pep Guardiola’s boys achieved two consecutive wins with the same stunning result – 5-0. The champions scored 10 goals against Norwich City and Arsenal at home and reminded everyone why they won the league last season. City’s summer transfer window didn’t go according to plan as they didn’t sign a new striker, but the arrival of Jack Grealish is giving them some extra options on the pitch. The former Aston Villa captain already scored his first goal for the club and made his first assist as well. He’s still settling in, but surely Grealish will be an important player for Man City.

It’s interesting to see how Aymeric Laporte is showing his qualities again. The Spanish international made few starts at the centre-back position and he even scored a goal during the game against Norwich City. Last season Pep Guardiola used John Stones as the regular partner of Ruben Dias in defense, but it seems that right now Laporte is making his case, too. It’d be curious to see who will start along the undisputed starter Dias against the Foxes. During the international break both Laporte and Stones played for their national teams, so their freshness will not be the case here.

How we said, Manchester City didn’t achieve one of their main goals during the summer transfer market – signing a striker. They really wanted to get Tottenham’s Harry Kane, but at the end he remained at Spurs. Since the start of the season Guardiola uses Ferran Torres at the top of the attack, although clearly this is not the perfect scenario in the manager’s head. Ferran did well against Arsenal in the last game, though – he scored twice against the Gunners and made one assist as well. Clearly he was the man of the match.

Another curious decision by Guardiola so far is that he uses Gabriel Jesus as a winger even when he clearly doesn’t have another pure striker in the squad. So far Jesus is doing well his job and against Arsenal he even scored his first goal for the season. Some pundits even said that right now the Brazilian is playing better as a winger than as a striker.

The best news for Manchester City is the recovery of two key players – Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden. Most likely they won’t be in the starting eleven at the King Power, but there’s a realistic chance to see them on the bench. De Bruyne missed the last two games against Norwich and Arsenal while Phil Foden is about to record his first minutes for the season. Foden had a terrific 2020/21 season with City, so now the fans expect even more from him. The youngster is slowly becoming a star at the Etihad and that’s a really great news for the champions.
